We are excited to present Vasile Rus “Poștașul” and his band together with Zoë Aqua.
Born and residing in Vadu Izei, a town near Sighetu Maramației in Maramureș, Vasile Rus is a violinist who learned a variety of regional styles of Maramureș music from masters of the older generation, including Gheorghe Covaci “Cioată” and Ion Covaci “Paganini”. From 2021-2023, American violinist Zoë Aqua studied the Jewish music of Maramureș with Rus as part of a Fulbright grant dedicated to studying folk music in the regions of Transylvania and Maramureș. For this concert, they will play selections from the Jewish repertoire together, and Vasile will also present music from other ethnic traditions of Maramureș, including Romanian, Roma, Ukrainian, and Hungarian.

The event is part of the Tranzit Days - Retrospective XXVI segment, co-financed by the Department for Interethnic Relations.
