Tibor Szemző is one of Hungary’s most important contemporary composers, influenced by the avant-garde as well as ambient and minimalist music. His multi-directional interest has oriented him towards the borderlands of different genres. Throughout his rich career, he has worked with many formations and artists worldwide. He is a versatile artist and, in addition to his compositions, his performances are significant, as well as his films and installations. He is passionate about the fusion of the human voice and instrumental music with the moving image, and his music is a narrative and a music-filmic fabric composed of separate layers. This layering is a true trademark of the composer.
He was a founding member of the new music ensembles Group 180, Fodderbasis and Gordian Knot producing several albums. As a member of Group 180, he played at several opening performances of contemporary music pieces in cooperation with musicians like Steve Reich, Petr Kotik, Alvin Curran, Chris Newman, György Szabados, László Vidovszky and others.
Fluidian (Emil Gherasim) composer, musician, sound artist. His work includes acoustic and electronic art music, film and theatre music, sound illustrations for contemporary dance and visual performances, minimalist textural music, sound paintings and ambient soundscapes.
His music is very personal and deeply meditative, with huge visual emotions, combining minimalist sound textures with a specific manner of improvisation.
Among his collaborative projects from last years could be highlighted the “Opaque Lights” album created in collaboration with Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen, “Pendular Emotions” album with Romanian trumpeter Petre Ionuțescu and a soundtrack co-written with Arve Henriksen for Anastasia Isachsen’s audio-visual light installation “Perspective” premiered at Fjord Light Art Festival, Oslo, Norway.
László Gőz, Hungarian jazz and contemporary musician and producer. Founder of the Budapest Music Center (BMC) and established the BMC Records label produced dozens of Hungarian classical, contemporary and jazz albums. He was also a founding member of the new music ensemble Group 180, among Tibor Szemző, renowned for its contemporary music concerts and recordings. As a musician, his collaborations have included work with Steve Reich, Petr Kotik, Alvin Curran, Chris Newman, Peter Eötvös, György Kurtág, Jiggs Wigham, Carl Fontana, Chris Potter, Lászlő Melis, Dave Liebman and others.
Alexandr Krestovský (1953), of half Roumanian descent, former employed for many years as an IT manager at the Economics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences. He has been playing music since his early youth in jazz bands, later active as a singer in various early music ensembles. In 1996 he was co-founder of The Opposite Land ensemble, where different musical experiences were melted in an unbounded musical expression loosely based on an East European musical tradition with a considerable emphasis on improvisation. Its work was substantially based on different texts mainly from the Central and East European cultural region in original languages, e.g. O.Mandelstam, N.Gumilyov, M.Pavic, D.Kiss, A.Kusniewicz, C.Magris, W.G.Sebald. He has been also collaborating with multimedia artist Arnold Dreyblatt (US/Germany) as a programmer and designer of computer driven visual outputs.
The program is part of the RESONANCES – Transnational collaborations in contemporary music project. Our mission is to promote and disseminate regional and international contemporary music productions.
