𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘇𝗶𝘁 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 – 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳 // 𝗦𝘂𝗯 𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘀̦𝗶 𝗮𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘀̦ // 𝗘𝗴𝘆 𝗳𝗲𝗱𝗲́𝗹 𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘁𝘁 will revitalize the inter-community dialogue whose symbolic and material support is the building of the former synagogue on the banks of the Someș river. The project aims to reaffirm the importance and physical necessity of this space.
From 2 to 13 October, we are creating a program that combines artistic processes with research and community work in an act of celebration and reinforcement of the intersection between the different communities to which Tranzit House has provided a common roof. October is also our 27th anniversary month and on this occasion we will celebrate with Tranzit Days. The resilience of this space is due to the many people who have contributed to it with their work, ideas, care and resources over the years. Tranzit Days aims to bring as many of them as possible “under the same roof”.

It is an intervention that finds its expression in a “site” of collective (re)imagining/(re)designing of the interior and exterior spaces of Tranzit House. The facade of the building will be cleaned, refurbished and conserved through hydrophobization, under the direction of sculptor and restorer Tibor Kolozsi. Architect Silviu Medeșan and visual artist Dénes Miklósi will coordinate a furniture and carpentry design workshop involving 5 resident artists.

In recent years, theater director Lorand Maxim has been exploring the medium of sound, as an author of sound installations and radio theater. His approach to sound grew (then diversified) from an interest in the dramaturgy of the interview text. In the frame of the audio-documentation site, Lorand aims to talk to everyone involved in the project, as well as to record the ambient sound of the work-process - soundscape.

Lali Gabor is one of Transylvania’s most famous and appreciated Gabor Gipsy coppersmith craftsmen. Lali says that the craft of coppersmithing can be elevated to an art. Lali is an old friend of Tranzit House. The project gives us the opportunity to bring him back for an open workshop, a craft performance with a simple goal: to equip Tranzit House with a new rain gutter. Mr. Gabor’s workshop will move to Tranzit House, and it will be open to those who want to learn about the craft of the coppersmith, watch Lali at work and listen to him tell his stories.
‣‣‣ 𝟬𝟱 𝗼𝗰𝘁. | 𝟭𝟵.𝟬𝟬 | ”𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀” 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁
An audio-visual journey through musical traditions and sound design with Seba Erhan, Marc Pocola, Tamás Tóth-Fábián, Mihai Varva, four musicians with very different influences. The concert will feature a series of arrangements inspired by Romanian folkloric themes, transformed into compositions in a variety of styles, from Jazz, Film Score, Psych-Rock to Funk and Pop. The sonic dimension will be complemented by the visual one through the use of a software that creates live images based on sound characteristics.

The building of Tranzit House will be equipped with the unique rain gutter signed by Lali Gabor and sons. The unveiling and the installation will be open to the public, a reason for celebrations and talks.

Emese Apai is a cultural mediator, who uses her culinary practice as a tool for cultural intervention. She will coordinate an inclusive and participatory cooking workshop - the project’s “gastronomic site” - whose finality will be celebrated each evening of the work put in over the day. Emese proposes a performative approach to the act of cooking and dining together, symbolically representing the variety of multiple communities that can fit in one kitchen and at one table. This site is dedicated to our young friends. Over the years, an essential part of the permanent program of Tranzit House has been dedicated to youth art and critical pedagogy. As part of this “site”, young people will have the opportunity to take part in a documentary film and photography workshop, which proposes to subjectively document the project’s actions. October 9 is the day on which Romania commemorates the victims of the Holocaust and the role played by the Romanian state in this phenomenon. Mazel Tov, the music band of the Jewish Community of Cluj, will be with us to remember this tragic episode together, but also to celebrate life and peace together. The band’s repertoire includes klezmer music with songs in Yiddish, Ladino and Hebrew.
‣‣‣ 𝟭𝟬 𝗼𝗰𝘁. | 𝟭𝟵.𝟬𝟬 | ”𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻/𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘇𝗶𝘁” 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁
Two artists, Ferencz Áron and Orbán Eszter take their sleeping bags and move to Tranzit House for a few days for a musical exploration of the space. The only instruments at their disposal are a recorder and a video camera. The composition will be born exclusively from the sounds and lights that the space offers. They will be joined at the concert by two special guests: Wurki, a specialist in video art and projections, and Yammada, a connoisseur of audio technique, who will take care of the building’s sonic particularities.

On Sunday we gather to celebrate de results of the sites. In a context where exchange value dominates the imaginary, when it comes to spaces and buildings, we gather to cultivate the living memory of a place, to celebrate the communities through and around which this endeavor has been built and the material and symbolic importance of a space like Tranzit House.

The team of Tranzit House, the artists and craftsmen involved during the two weeks, architect friends, constant advisors and supporters of Tranzit House, as well as colleagues from different independent spaces in Cluj will engage in a series of discussions on the theme of cultural reconversion.
