Between October 10–25, join us in celebrating 28 years of Casa Tranzit!
𝐈𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐦𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝟏𝟗𝟗𝟕, the building of the former Poalei Tzedek synagogue - then abandoned and severely damaged - was brought back into the city’s cultural life through the Casa Tranzit project.
It was the first initiative in Romania to restore the historical and symbolic value of a former synagogue for both local and international audiences, transforming it into an independent cultural center.
𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐦𝐧, we welcome you to a diverse programme of performances, exhibitions, in-situ interventions, workshops, concerts, and conferences. These events not only document the space but also continuously bring it back to life for public use.
Each artistic gesture becomes a way to reshape the connection between memory and the present, between communities and the city, between the margins and the center.
By symbolically reactivating the former synagogue, the project underscores our shared responsibility toward urban development and highlights the importance of creative, active community participation in shaping the city’s future.
This year’s edition of Tranzit Days is inspired by the concept of 𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐚: a real place (not utopian, or “without a place”) that is layered with symbolic meaning and possibilities, reflecting the society to which it belongs in unique ways.
