Chamber music for percussion began to spread in the second half of the 20th century and is now at its peak. The music seeks to create new sounds and rhythms, which requires both a knowledge of the classical and an openness to the contemporary. It juxtaposes electronic sound with instrumental performance. It juxtaposes electronic sound with instrumental performance. It explores and extends the use of the score, using both classical notation and exploring various new musical notation systems. At the very same time, it seeks to discover new parameters and applications for improvisation.
