Relying on minimalist direction but brought to life by the actress’s performance, “Everyone’s Child” is a one-woman show that explores the problematic aspects of the mother-child relationship. It begins with an idealized image of the mother, then moves through the facets and traces of a toxic coexistence, and ends with a glimmer of possible healing, with the character’s acceptance of herself as an adult, detached from the maternal figure. Although it draws on personal experiences — having been written by Lucia Mărneanu herself — the play goes far beyond an autobiographical perspective and succeeds, with both sadness and humor, in speaking to every daughter and son, and to every mother.
