“We have to accept that, for now, young people are channeling this need for ecstasy, this heightened state of excitement, in this way—that is, by finally taking part in this unique emotional revolution, and then moving on to the real revolution” (young person speaking in the film)
“As I said, there’s a dose of irony in Extasy. To some extent, I borrowed this title from Iván Vitányi because he, like me, viewed young people ‘from a distance’ and didn’t identify with the young crowds that filled the concert halls. We were already older. I wanted to portray the beat phenomenon objectively and reflect on it as a social problem” (András Kovács, director)
There was a time when Hungarian youth were crazy about the songs of Illés, Metró, Olympia, Omega, and Tolcsvayék, but the Hungarian beat movement had not only enthusiastic supporters but also determined opponents. András Kovács investigated the “phenomenon,” giving voice to both sides, and not least to the bands and their members. We see the major figures of Hungarian beat music at the beginning of their careers, sharing their thoughts and opinions.
The event is free of charge. Everyone is warmly welcome.
