The purpose of this discussion is to place the history of the former Poalei Tzedek synagogue, which currently houses Tranzit House, within a broader context, recalling the past of the Jewish community in Cluj, its architectural heritage, and various forms of memory and commemoration.

In his introduction, Attila Gidó will present an overview of the formation of the Jewish community in Cluj and the history of the city’s synagogues and prayer houses.

Attila Weisz will describe the built environment surrounding Tranzit House: he shows what the neighborhood looked like when Poale Tzedek was founded and how the district’s architecture evolved in the 19th and 20th centuries.

András Zádor will describe the history of the Poalei Tzedek Association and the prayer house it administered, emphasizing its community and religious role in the Jewish life of the city.

Székely Júlia Andrea Ghița will speak about the preservation of Jewish memory in Cluj through film, showing how the city Jewish past is represented in feature films.

Dan Craioveanu will address about how a museum contributes to the preservation of memory and the creation of memorial sites. In this context, he will also present the circumstances in which Muzeon was founded and continues to operate.

Csilla Könczei will briefly present the Tranzit Foundation’s projects related to the Jewish community, which strengthen the preservation of its past and its presence in contemporary culture.
